About
I began my songwriting journey in the early 90s. Playing in a rock band suited my rebellious nature, and I approached commercial success and popularity with caution. My strengths were an ear for melody and a knack for playing with words. I created solely under the influence of inspiration, guided by musical intuition. For 10 years, I was convinced that this was the only way songs were made. One day, it hit me that the greatest joy I got was from writing songs. Shortly after this realization, I entered a period of self-reflection. I understood that without learning the craft of songwriting and composition techniques, I would not be able to compete with professional songwriters or achieve career fulfillment.
I began studying songwriting with educational courses from Berklee College of Music (2007). This was the first, crucial step. It opened my eyes to the existence of methodology—a set of rules and practical tips that gave my creative process a significant boost. Next, wanting to refine specific aspects of the craft, I pursued individual lessons.
John Braheny was a highly sought-after mentor for songwriters and songwriting teachers in the US. His workshops were attended by Diane Warren (the most awarded songwriter in the world), Stevie Nicks, Lindsey Buckingham (Fleetwood Mac), and many others. He wrote "The Craft and Business of Songwriting", a guide regarded as the "bible" among songwriters. He initiated and co-organized the Songwriters EXPO in Los Angeles for 17 years. He was my mentor for over three years (2008-2011). He evaluated songs, provided practical tips, and advised on artistic and professional matters. During this time, I began collaborating with renowned lyricists (James Grey, Lindsey Scott, Morten Maehre), and the songs we wrote together caught the attention of publishers in the international market.
My second mentor was Mark Cawley , a hit songwriter for artists such as Tina Turner, Joe Cocker, Chaka Khan, Spice Girls, Diana Ross, and many others. Mark taught me techniques for working on song lyrics, based on methods used by the greatest songwriters.
The experiences I gathered during this fascinating 30-year journey shaped my songwriting and composition craft and equipped me with the skills necessary to teach the craft of songwriting.
